National Meetings

The Albanian National Meeting on Ratification of the FCTC was held in Tirana on December 23, 2005.

The FCTC was signed on June 29, 2004 and ratified on April 26, 2006.

National Meeting on Capacity Building in Tobacco Control

The National Workshop “Improving the knowledge and skills of policy makers and public health leaders in planning and management of comprehensive tobacco control”, was held in Tirana (Rogner Hotel Europapark), 12-13 March 2007. The National Workshop was part of a series of similar workshops held in 9 countries of the region in the framework of Component 2 of SEE Tobacco Control Project of Stability Pact Initiative for Social Cohesion. The National Workshop followed the intersectoral capacity building workshop on comprehensive tobacco control policies for the South Eastern European countries, Bled, Slovenia, 11-13 October 2006 and the approval of the Law “For the Protection of Health from Tobacco Products” in 6 November 2006. The experts who took part in the regional workshop, held in Bled, were involved in the preparation and the proceedings of the workshop. The National Workshop adhered to the general objectives of Component 2 of SEE Tobacco Control Project:
The participants in the workshop were specialists from Ministry of Health, Institute of Public Health, Regional Health Authority of Tirana, Ministry of Finance, General Directory of Taxes, General Directory of Customs, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Interior, Tirana Municipality, civil society, media, Faculty of Medicine, UN Agencies (WHO, UNICEF).
